We are the Sam Houston Men’s Lacrosse team, a competitive collegiate club team competing within Division II of the Lone Star Alliance of the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association. We are a non-profit student organization operated under the umbrella of the University’s Department of Recreational Sports, with student officers responsible for the daily operation of the team. We are funded primarily by player dues, donations, and fundraising. A very small portion of our funding comes via an allotment from Rec Sports.
The team dates back to the early eighties when it was founded and has continued at various levels since that time. In an attempt to re-vitalize the program to a nationally competitive level, each season we have been actively recruiting freshman or other lacrosse players. This program gives our young men an opportunity to continue to compete in a sport they have grown to love. It also provides many leadership opportunities in team and organizational development.
While we are working on fundraising opportunities to help fund our team expenses and our expenses to out of league tournaments, and the national championships, we are also soliciting donations from corporate and individual sponsors to keep our team operating. Examples of some of our expenses include: $300 funds officials for one home game. $500 funds balls and nets needed for the season for practice and games. $350 funds two 15-passenger vans for travel to out of town games per day. $400 will fund one of our nine team hotel rooms for the week at Nationals.
