There are three poll services for the MCLA: the Adidas Top23 put out by MCLA Magazine; Laxpower.com and Prodigy. Sam Houston came out #17 in the Adidas Top23 and #22 in the Prodigy poll. Laxpower is a mathematical nightmare that uses Strength of Schedule; Power Ratings; and a slew of other criteria, and has Sam at #46. “Laxpower doesn’t make sense to many of us. The Prodigy poll is pretty much our ‘Coaches Poll’, so I usually follow that the most” said Coach Fritts.
Breaking the Top 25 is a good position for Sam Houston. The Bearkats return 9 out of 10 starters from the 2010 season! 12 returning players were All Conference in 2010 while three of those 12 were also named All American. To Fritts, the best part of Denver was getting beat big by #1 and 2 time national champions, St. Thomas. “We are going to see a whole different kind of leadership and focus in 2010-2011. With so many coming back with national experience and 3 quarters of the team being Sophomores and Juniors, this program is just going to keep moving up each year.”
